An extraordinary work from the world of body painting
…with three models, a good idea and a touch of magical, artistic energy.
The depiction of a seahorse involved countless hours of work for 10 people. The development of the idea, design, make-up, set, photos, editing and illustration…. Thanks to perfect preparation, the body painting and photo shoot were completed in just 10 hours.
On December 22nd last year Gorka Arranz -LKM, Elvira Garcia -TRUHKOMakeup and Erasmo Daaz -Senjo Color Spain came together to visualize a great project for the start of an artistic 2019.
Due to the destruction of subterranean seagrass forests and fishing in Asia for its healing powers, the seahorse is now one of the world’s endangered species. The art of body painting is just as ephemeral. Alive for eternity only through photography.
The work of art in 3 phases
Phase 1: Placement of the bodies and definition of the implementation as designs
Performing a 3D body painting with several bodies is undoubtedly one of the most complex tasks within this body art.
The first of the challenges was to harmonize the bodies within the composition. Emphasize the body parts that are important and visually remove unnecessary body elements from the picture.
Phase 2: Implementation of the design with the living models
The realization of the design into reality. Perhaps the most delicate phase in this group community process. The slightest mistake at this stage can hamper work for several hours and, in the worst case, ruin it.
Can the models be placed according to the design? What poses do they strike and how long do they hold them?
Phase 3: Painting the models and assembling the artwork
This phase starts directly with the body painting based on the design from phase 2. 10 hours later it will be clear whether the design, planning and realization were successful.
We got to work with sponge, brush and airbrush. LKM is a paradise for body artists in Spain. In the heart of Madrid you will find everything you need for this art form. Of course, Senjo Color also makes an important contribution to the supply of exclusive artists’ materials for make-up artists and body painters.
Done. The result is impressive! The models perfectly painted, the arrangement perfectly staged. The homage to the seahorse is a complete success.
The artists go home happy and proud. Full of new ideas for future projects. But also visibly exhausted from a very long project day.
